How to Find and Update Drivers

Keeping the device drivers on a computer up to date is very important. Some drivers are updated often, while others not so much. This guide will go over some basic steps to help you find out if drivers need updating and how to install them if so.

  • Right click on 'Computer' or 'My Computer' for older operating systems.

  • Click 'Manage'

  • Select 'Device Manager' from the menu on the left

  • Select the device you wish to check the driver information for

  • Right click the device and click 'Properties'

  • Go to the 'Driver' tab and it will have the provider, date, driver version and what company     signed  the driver

  • From there you can let windows search for any driver updates by clicking 'Update Driver' then selecting 'Search automatically for updated driver software'

  • Another option is to find the manufacturer's website and look for the most up to date drivers they have available to download. Repeat steps 1 - 6 and compare the driver versions.

  • If the manufacturer's website has a newer one available than what is installed, download it and install it.
